Taste Of Honey

On the table this evening sat a new jar of posh honey. The Boy examined it, identified it successfully, then discarded it.

That, I said, might be a Christmas present for someone.

He looked at me scornfully.

That's not a present, he said. Maybe a toy. (pause) Or a Power Ranger. (pause) Or a dinosaur.

Oh Blimey

Weaving my way back home this evening through the dimly lit streets of (dark as the) Kesgrave, where the good citizens make sure to park on the road away from the glare (not) of the too-few 25watt streetlights, when suddenly it wasn't so black as pitch. For one of the residents had been busy over the weekend putting up his Christmas lights! A snowman, a sled, the works.

Then noticed that the traditional Coes' Christmas trees are also up, and fab they look too.

Today is the 14th of November.

Don't Throw It Away!

Here's a great thing: Freecycle, "a grassroots movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns".

Example: for the last few weeks, there's been an elephant in the room. Actually it's a microwave in the hall. One that we've had for around 15 years, still working, but which has recently been replaced by a newer & smaller model, as will happen to us all.

So, what to do? Wasn't worth any money, given its age, and seemed such a waste to cart it to the local tip. Then a happy thought hit me on Friday night: stick it on the Ipswich Freecycle site. One Matsui microwave, perfectly functional if a tad past it, free to a good home.

Got an email on Saturday afternoon from a chap living less than a mile away, saying he'd like it to help teach science at school. And he came to pick it up that evening. Hoorah!

How To Be Happy In A Sad, Sad World

Step 1 --- take:
  • one jacket potato with chilli, a few lettuce leaves & a pat of butter
  • some freshly squeezed orange juice
  • a newspaper or magazine
Eat, drink & digest, then on to step 2 --- take:
  • one large latte
  • a bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk
  • that day's fiendish Su Doku from the online Times
Sup, nibble & solve, then step 3 --- take:
  • one extra strong mint
Life (and your breath) is sweet.

Don't Eat Mine

There comes a day in a chap's life when it's time --- not unrelated to single digit air temperature --- to put away the summer shorts one's been wearing on the boneshaker to & from one's place of employment. Not only the shorts that are lightweight.

Blessed Are They

I'm hooked on four syllables: mascarpone. Usually I don't touch raw cheese --- sorry, Wallace --- but this particular "rich, creamy and smooth" soft variety pedals my pushbike.

It's the cherry on the icing of a visit to Pizza Express, offered as an accompaniment to their desserts. Then friends had some on the table to go with that evening's pud, a fab cooked brioche confection. Scrum.

Wifey, bless her, purchased a pot just for me last week. And another tub turned up as part of the weekend's fireworks feast, along with some more brioche blissfulness.

Saddle up and mascarpone, I say.
