Ipswich Lunches: Harvest Moon
In our shared light lunch history we've had crisps and milkshake at the
Moon & Sixpence near Waldringfield,
bitten into burgers and supped San Pellegrino at
Half Moon Foods
in Ransomes Europark,
and opted for a jacket at the
Harvest Moon Cafe
out by Capel St Mary. We know how it feels to get too high, too far, too soon.
Surely Suffolk is crying out for a cafe called Brigadoon?
Back to the current day where the lovely folk who ran the award-winning Hullabaloo (who we visited at both their original Cemetery Road and St Peter's Street locations) have moved on and been bought out by ex-employee Flynn Squirrel. Definite change of colour scheme even to these RGB-challenged eyes: what else is new?
Andy's already at table for our tardy 2pm start -- it is a Friday, people -- and awaiting his "baguette sandwich" with chick peas. Sounds good but I can't possibly have the same thing, so it's a quick scroll down the sensibly limited menu to go for the avocado bun. Order with the nice lady at the old Hullaballo counter, query the day's special of leek & potato soup (OK) with vanilla (eh?), then back to our prime window seat. My plate came loaded with potato salad and dressed leaves and seeds and what became a messy ciabatta bun. Still loves their veg in this specific locale, it seems: tons o' taste and you'll spend the afternoon feeling pretty darn virtuous.
Drinks, you say? Smoothie for the kid on the Mediterranean diet. Gingerella for the lad on the bike.
Been down this vicinity a few times lately for the likes of On The Huh, Cafe Myra, the St Nicholas Sandwich Shop and Another Bowl. The twin saints of Nicholas and Peter go marchin' on, to be sure, with all your bases covered.
If it was a car -- LincVolt.
If they were passing by -- Neil Young.
